Demolition work underway at Fort Bliss Family Homes to make way for new possibilities

Local leadership at Fort Bliss joined the Balfour Beatty Communities team to celebrate the start of demolition at Fort Bliss Family Homes’ South Main Post neighborhood. The removal of this neighborhood will leave the possibilty open to redevelop into homes, amenities or more in the coming years.

The neighborhood is made up of 239 homes in 151 buildings that were built from 1956-1962. These homes are considered the oldest in the community’s portfolio that are not deemed historic homes.

Resident Specialist Dennis Johnson was also on-site to witness the start to demolition for another reason—he was a resident of this neighborhood for almost two decades. Dennis’ father was a Sergeant Major at Fort Bliss during his military career and brought his family to live in the military housing community. He lived at 1801 Artillery for 18 years of his life, even after his family had the option to upgrade to a different home. Dennis’ mom loved the location of their home, as she was able to easily get to local shops and amenities without needing to drive a long way.

The BBC team has been working with the Army to determine next steps for this area of the community. The location is ideal for residents, as amenities, a variety of retail locations and schools are conveniently close by. We look forward to seeing the future of the neighborhood and new offerings for residents at Fort Bliss Family Homes.
