Balfour Beatty Communities moves forward with housing restoration at Tyndall Air Force Base inviting local contractors to submit bids and visit site

Balfour Beatty Communities announced today that it is finalizing the scope for the next phase of work in the Tyndall AFB housing restoration project and is inviting local contractors to submit their interest/credentials for consideration. On Tuesday, April 23, 2019, and Wednesday, April 24, 2019 Balfour Beatty will conduct site visits with contractors interested in the comprehensive housing rebuilding and restoration project at the base. Tyndall AFB, including the privatized housing on base, sustained significant and devastating damage from Hurricane Michael. While extensive roofing work is already underway at the property, this next phase of the restoration will be mostly to the interiors of the homes and is expected to begin in May following an expedited bidding process.

“We’re seeking to engage qualified licensed local contractors who can mobilize quickly to rebuild and restore the hundreds of family homes at Tyndall AFB that were damaged and destroyed by Hurricane Michael,” said Mark Lavin, senior vice president, Balfour Beatty Communities. “We’re hiring teams that can help us create a more resilient and connected community for the future of the base. We encourage contractors in the Bay County area to register their interest and attend our site visit days in order to participate in this critical rebuilding effort.”

Balfour Beatty Communities plans to contract with a wide variety of professional trades, including:

  • Drywall
  • Insulation
  • Flooring
  • Siding
  • Finish carpentry
  • Finish electrical
  • HVAC
  • Plumbing
  • Countertops
  • Cabinets

Contractors interested in pursuing opportunities at Tyndall AFB Homes should contact Balfour Beatty Communities Procurement Project Manager Geoff Hutcherson at TyndallRFP@bbcgrp.com to obtain the Request for Proposal package and indicate their desire to attend a site visit. Pre-registration is required and in keeping with security procedures, contractors who show up without registering will not be allowed on the base for the visits.

The deadline for bid submissions is May 10 with work expected to begin in May.

The damage caused by Hurricane Michael throughout Tyndall Air Force Base will require comprehensive restoration work to homes throughout the base. Balfour Beatty Communities has been working with the Air Force and the senior lender to finalize the scope of the restoration project and estimates the first restored homes could be available for move-in this fall. The company has committed to a more strategic rebuilding effort focused on upgrading the community for future storm resilience, as well as to include fiber optic infrastructure and improved cellular coverage to better enable smart home technology.

Balfour Beatty Communities’ Military Housing division is in a 50-year partnership created with the Department of the Air Force through the Military Housing Privatization Initiative (MHPI). As one of the leading partners in MHPI and a premier military housing developer, Balfour Beatty Communities owns and manages more than 43,000 homes across 55 Army, Navy and Air Force installations throughout the United States.
