All hands on deck for military communities impacted by the Deep Freeze

Last week, several BBC military communities experienced unprecedented winter conditions for states including Texas and Oklahoma. The extremely low temperatures, paired with snow, sleet, and freezing rain, led to utility outages and varying levels of home damage.

The site teams at Altus AFB Homes, Cannon Family Homes, Dyess Family Homes, Fort Carson Family Homes, Lackland Family Homes, Tinker AFB Homes, Sheppard AFB Homes, and Whiteman Family Homes have and continue to work tirelessly to assist residents, some needing to be relocated, and make emergency repairs to busted pipes and other home damage.

Many of our site teams worked non-stop during the storm to address numerous emergency work orders that came through, mostly frozen and burst pipes. In some communities, this even meant team members sleeping in the office in case calls came from residents in the middle of the night or in the early morning hours.

The added complexities of COVID-19 have resulted in roadblocks as well, including difficulty procuring parts to fix plumbing and other issues in resident homes. The cities and communities beyond the gate are experiencing similar home troubles, leading to shortages of supplies and a lack of vendor availability to assist.

In response to the hardship, the Balfour Beatty Renovation & Construction team deployed over the weekend to Dyess AFB, Fort Carson, Lackland AFB, and Tinker AFB to lend a helping hand to the tired teams. Just like with hurricane strike team efforts, the Renovation & Construction team members packed their bags and hopped on planes or jumped in their cars to get to team members in need as quickly as possible. In addition to their expertise, the team members brought with them luggage full of low-supply parts to make necessary repairs in resident homes.

A big shoutout to all the team members who put in so much effort and time to ensure residents were as well taken care of as possible during this challenging time. Thank you for all you do!
